The number of nursing vacancies has fallen by nearly 40 per cent in the last year, according to data gathered by Nursing Times.
The figures, together with new data from the NHS Information Centre, have fuelled fears that NHS trusts are freezing vacancies, are not replacing nurses and are converting posts to lower grades in order to tighten budgets.
Shock horror. Yawn.

RCN Scotland has said policies such as freezing posts and not replacing people who leave mean newly qualified nurses and midwives are struggling to find jobs in the NHS. The union has warned “unsustainable tactics” are being used by health chiefs struggling to cut costs, and called for more to be done to protect frontline services. It added the decisions could have “devastating consequences” for patient care in the future.Remember this my dear reader: This has gone nationwide. And it has been going on for a hell of a long time.My trust still hasn't hired any nurses. But they have been advertising for management posts with stupid names and "champions" on salaries around £130,000 a year.
Big fat suprise...not. We will all be replaced by HCAs and APs at this rate whilst the managers carry on regardless...treat poeple in their own homes and you can close down all the hospitals! Pat that manager on the back!....been there, done that...newsflash- it didn't work.
ReplyDeleteRIP NHS
I'm a university student in Canada that's been thinking about going into nursing. I stumbled across your site while poking around the internet looking at lots of different nursing blogs and info. I just started reading the book you recommend on here: Nursing Against the Odds. While it has made me slightly weary I'm learning a lot from it, so thanks for recommending it!
ReplyDeleteHi Gezas, i would just like to make an introduce myself to the members at militantmedicalnurse.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThat is what we call a neat message board, I barely care to read out a complete list of threads but this message board was successful in getting my attention and believe me, That?s unusual.
I was on a digital skirmish for some info and was searching on Google Uganda for it. I visited each of the top six pages that came up but didn?t get any relevant result... I then luckily found your diamond message board in the dirt and thought to check it out. This is right what I wanted! - what a tremendous find!
Thanks peeps at militantmedicalnurse.blogspot.com and keep the incredible effort up!?!
